On March 30, 2015, Hiway 80 Rescue Mission - Gateway to Hope opened its doors from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm to meet the basic needs of the homeless in Tyler.
Services provided through the day center include access to showers, laundry, haircuts, phone, mail, and computer access for those in need. Throughout the week different volunteers come and help by distribute supplies, assist guests on the computers, cut hair, share the Lord, or sometimes just take time to be an encouragement and friendly ear to listen.
May 27, 2015 we opened for afternoon hours that are a focused time for those wanting to participate in classes. Each day guests who desire to participate in that afternoon start the day's program at 1:00 pm, there is a half hour chore time and then the class for that day starts.
Our current class schedule is as follows:
- Monday – Art Therapy
- Tuesday – Bible Study
- Wednesday – UT Health Northeast - Health Class
- Thursday - Bible Study
- Friday – Goals Management
Everything we have been able to do at Hiway 80 Rescue Mission - Gateway to Hope has been made possible through support of volunteers and donors in the Tyler area, we are certainly blessed. If you would like more information on how you can get involved, please see our “Ways to Help” page or contact Dawn Moltzan, Director in Tyler at (903) 617-6097.
