We are so thankful for our partnership with Special Health Resources for Texas & UT Tyler Nurse Practitioner Program - allowing us to offer medical services to those in need!
Originally starting in June 2013, we have now seen over 400 patients with an average of 20 appointments per month. Currently those who are homeless and without income can register for clinic services on Thursdays from 10:00 – 11:00 am to schedule an appointment for the following week.
One day Chris (pictured to the left) came into Hiway 80 Rescue Mission - Gateway to Hope to shower. He mentioned that he needed a Band-Aid for a spot on his leg. After our staff saw it, we immediately reached out to our medical clinic partners and were able to get him seen. It turned out to be a very bad infection that if left untreated could have led to an extended hospital stay. Instead he was able to get the medicine he needed, an updated tetanus shot, and he was on his way back to work. Since this time, Chris has been able to maintain his health, his job, and has successfully moved out of shelter into his own apartment. Being able to offer medical services to those in the greatest need is a blessing beyond just the appointment, which we are so thankful to be able to offer!
